Comments from exhibitors and attendees as well as business and booth traffic at 2009 FABTECH International and AWS Welding Show indicated that the manufacturing industry is alive, well, and optimistic about its future. Approximately 25,000 visitors from 90+ countries visited to discover, evaluate, and purchase manufacturing technologies and solutions. Filling nearly 400,000 ft² of booth space, 4-day show included 1,083 exhibitors and 500+ new products.

Air Transport Association Reports Decline in October Passenger Demand, September Cargo Traffic

ATA reported that passenger revenue, based on sample group of carriers, fell 15% in October 2009 versus same month in 2008. This marks 12th consecutive month in which passenger revenue has declined from prior year, fueled primarily by 11th consecutive month of ticket price declines. Three percent fewer passengers traveled on U.S. airlines in October, while average price to fly one mile fell 13.5%. U.S. airlines also saw cargo revenue ton miles decline 3% year over year in Sept 2009.

According to NTSB, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration should require all new motor vehicles weighing over 10,000 lb to be equipped with direct tire pressure monitoring systems. Standards should also be developed for newly manufactured motorcoaches that prevent head and neck injuries from overhead luggage racks.

NTSB Safety Recommendations H-09-25 and -26
