Where I'm at, the biggest challenge is who do I want to work for. There is such a huge shortage of engineers around here, it's a matter of who has the best benefits and best pay.

Buying direct from businesses.

I have a small business in a rural area and order supplies often. All the time I fine "big" business won't sell to small business; they tell me to go to a distributor of theirs. Here is the BUG: they're either on the other side of the "state" -- too far to travel -- or they don't have it in stock and would take a week or so to get.

Why would they not want to sell it to me direct at the moment? It would be a sale for them. I often look elsewhere for the item, or do something else, or sometimes I lose the job because of the timeframe.

Any ideas on what to do? i.e. I have been waiting two weeks for a local supplier to get some electrical parts, most likely would had in a day from the Co. just a madding thing.
