October Is Connecticut’s ‘Dream it. Do it.’ Manufacturing Month

Connecticut. Dream it. Do it. Manufacturing Month,” which features industry initiatives aimed to educate a future workforce about industry and manufacturing jobs.

The statewide effort, in its third year, was launched by The Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology, Inc. (CCAT) and brings together a coalition of manufacturers, trade associations, and economic development and workforce organizations. The coalition plans to showcase industry career paths through open houses and interactive sessions that will educate students and prospective industry talent.

Dream it. Do it. stems from the larger initiative created in 2005 by The Manufacturing Institute to spread awareness of industry, which is facing a widely reported workforce shortage.

CCAT notes that there are three goals the CT mission: establishing a positive image of manufacturing to ensure a workforce pipeline, aligning educational systems to industry needs to close the existing skills gap, and fostering collaboration by facilitating communication among stakeholders to share information.

Throughout the month, Connecticut-based companies will host “Manufacturing Mania” events, which include interactive sessions to inform middle school students about the process of manufacturing products in the state. The by-invitation events will be at the Toyota Presents Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford on Friday and at the Three Rivers Community College in Norwich later this month.

Also on Friday, statewide manufacturers, including CNC Software Inc, in Tolland, and Dymotek in Ellington, will open their doors to groups for facility tours for the second annual national Manufacturing Day (MFG Day).

The CCAT assists private and public entities to apply innovative tools and practices to increase efficiencies, enhance competitiveness and to strengthen the workforce.
